What is the purpose of "prepping"? Well, for most people it means having enough food and supplies on hand in case of an emergency, either short term or long term. For most "preppers" it means for the long term.
It seems today more and more people are becoming preppers; which is a good thing. But why are they doing it? Mostly because the world is in turmoil. In fact, it is in the worst turmoil in modern history. Does that mean that preppers are acting out of fear? If so, what is it that they are so fearful of?
For the most part, they are preparing for a collapse in our overall economy and society. The fear that our economy will collapse which will in turn cause a collapse of our overall society. That could (most likely would) cause a shortage of food, which would become a rare commodity and hard to come by. But, not if we are prepared for it.
Some prep for the sole purpose of natural disasters that could happen in the area where they live, i.e. floods, hurricanes, fires, earthquakes, etc. These preppers prepare for more short term disasters; usually just a few days to a month.
Others prep for the possibility of an outbreak of civil unrest, or even another civil war, based on the rivaling of society (most notedly the two main political parties) today. If that were to happen, it could last months or even years. If this were to happen, there would be chaos, there would be looting, violence, and worse.
Still others prep because they can see the possibility of an EMP (Electronic Magnetic Pulse) attack by North Korea, China, or Russia or a CME (Coronal Mass Ejection) caused by the sun's solar flares. These preppers see the possibility of our society being thrown back into the early 1800s and living for many years without electricity and other crucial power sources if either were to happen.
And don't forget about those who believe in a zombie apocalypse happening. Which, in a round about way, could happen. Not so much the living dead coming up out of their graves and seeking human flesh to survive, but more like such a critical collapse of society that starving people would become cannibals.
The main reason I chose to become a prepper really doesn't have as much to do with any particular situation above as it does with the fact that we are living in "The End Times". In reality, that's the reason for so much turmoil in the world today; and the cause of the concern over our economy, natural disasters, and society in general. Most of the people don't even realize it as the true reason for all that is going on in the world.
Jesus said in Matthew 24:36 "But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone. For the coming of the Son of Man will be just like the days of Noah. For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark,
and they did not understand until the flood came and took them all away; so will the coming of the Son of Man be." (King James Version).
We know He's coming, but we don't know for sure when it will be. We know that He has told us that the world will be as it was in the days of Noah. If we truly look around ourselves we can see that we are definitely close to living as in the days of Noah; especially here in the U.S. I will not go into specifics, because it is truly clear to most Christians. But, I will say that in the same way that Noah was prepared for the end of the world as he knew it, we are living in a time that we should also be prepared. Do you think that tomorrow we're just gonna wake up and it will be the end of the world? I don't believe so. I believe that it is going to get much worse before that happens and we need to be prepared for it.
We want Jesus to return, yet we don't even think (or want to think) of what has to happen to affect His return. The Bible doesn't say that He will return to a world full of rainbows and unicorns. Jesus tells us in Matthew 24:7 "For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and in various places there will be famines and earthquakes." and in Matthew 24:9 "Then they will deliver you to tribulation, and will kill you, and you will be hated by all nations because of My name." (King James version) I don't want to put fear in anyone, but we need to wake up and realize the truth! Things are going to happen that aren't good, and we need to be prepared.
I believe that there will come a day (in my lifetime) when we will no longer have the luxuries that we have come to depend upon in today's world.
That is why I chose to become a prepper, so that I and my family may be provided for when that day comes. I pray that whether you choose to start prepping, or continue prepping, that you will do so with wisdom.
And with that, I will leave you with this:
Matthew 25:1-13 "Then the kingdom of heaven will be comparable to ten virgins, who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish, and five were prudent. For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them,
but the prudent took oil in flasks along with their lamps. Now while the bridegroom was delaying, they all got drowsy and began to sleep. But at midnight there was a shout, "Behold, the bridegroom! Come out to meet him." Then all those virgins rose and trimmed their lamps. The foolish said to the prudent, "Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out." But the prudent answered, "No, there will not be enough for us and you too; go instead to the dealers and buy some for yourselves." And while they were going away to make the purchase, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding feast; and the door was shut. Later the other virgins also came, saying, "Lord, lord, open up for us." But he answered, "Truly I say to you, I do not know you." Be on the alert then, for you do not know the day nor the hour.
(King James Version)
Until next time...happy prepping, and God bless!
